Weight Gain During Pregnancy
What does it actually mean to eat for two? Straight ahead, most moms probably think it's about eating double amount of food, as it's two mouths now. A more educated guess changes your initial thought and you'll find out it's actually eating what's good for the other person than yourself. It's also true you need to indulge more calories but not to multiply them by two. You should know that the extra weight doesn't go only to the baby; it also goes to your breast tissue, blood supply, amniotic fluid, placenta, increase of uterus and also to store away for delivery and breastfeeding time. Your height and weight prior to the pregnancy also has a word to say on how much weight gain during pregnancy is enough. Have your doctor run a weight gain estimator with all your data in there, and you'll have an accurate indication of how much you should weigh at each stage in your pregnancy. Keep a weight log as well to help you stay alert week by week of your weight gain evolution.
Will my baby be fat if I eat too much while pregnant?
Much like with everything else, too much is too much; too much fat will probably lead to some malfunction somewhere in your body in time. When pregnant, gaining too much weight will make your baby bigger and for one, mom will have a more difficult delivery. In most severe cases, scientists say baby risks diabetes from too much weight gain during pregnancy. Also, it's been researched that obesity or overweight prior to pregnancy will affect both mom and baby, for sure. So, better plan your baby and, among other preparations, lose some weight as well.
Exercise your baby
Pregnant or not, it's a fact that exercise is health for your mind and body. More so when you're pregnant; have it in your daily schedule to do a little exercise be it slight aerobics, swimming, dancing or simply taking a walk, preferably out in the fresh air with some greenery around. It's recommended for a smooth development of the fetus, for an easier delivery, and naturally for preventing weight gain during pregnancy. Moreover, you may transmit the appetite for exercise to your baby and she/he will become a dynamic and healthy individual later on in life.
What to eat while pregnant
No matter what your food chart may be, don't under or overdo it. Week by week and semester by semester, following the baby's development and what the specific needs are for the specific moment, give yourself and your baby the entire range of necessary nutrition. Include carbohydrates in your diet, go for the wholegrain and less so for the processed white rice or bread or pasta; add fruits and vegetables, preferably natural and not chemically pumped (choose the smaller apple be it with wrinkles instead of the shiny perfect shaped green one); proteins, of course, from meat (it is said to go easy on the liver) fish and eggs; the dairy is on the table, just go for the low-fat once in a while monitor your weight gain. As for the rest, forget the sugars and the sodas, go for flat and fresh water or some cool tea.
